Camping in Kaokoland

Epupa Camp consists of nine luxury safari-style tents erected on stone platforms, each with two single beds and en-suite bathroom. All tents have electricity and mosquito netting and an outside, shaded balcony overlooking the tranquil Kunene River. Large makalani palms overhead provide welcome shade from the midday sun.

A small suspension bridge connects Epupa Camp with its own private island with hammocks, benches, and lounge chairs along the river to create your own little piece of paradise.

Kunene River Lodge boasts unspoilt landscapes, wildlife and historic culture abound in this wild, remote part of Africa. The Kunene River forms a natural boundary at Namibia's northern extremity, and here we find one of the country's most famous adventure centres - Kunene River Lodge.

Sited 50km west of Ruacana Falls and 100km east of the spectacular Epupa Falls, Kunene River Lodge nestles beneath a beautiful canopy of indigenous trees stretching down to the river.

The Lodge offers accommodation ranging from spacious deluxe air-conditioned rooms to rustic chalets and attractive campsites, all laid out in the tranquil shade of the Jackalberry and Leadwood trees.

In addition to its idyllic setting, facilities and in-house activities, the Lodge also serves as an ideal gateway for those setting out to explore the rugged and beautiful Kaokoland region of Namibia to the north-west.

"A Piece of Paradise" has been aptly used to describe Kunene River Lodge. Browse our website to get a taste of your Holiday of a Lifetime. If you require any more information please contact us directly.

Omarunga Camp is situated on the banks of the Kunene river, only a short walk upstream from the spectacular Epupa Falls. Hidden in the shade of the exotic Makalani Omarunga Camp mappalmtrees, this little paradise is definitely one of Namibia's most secluded getaways. The lush vegetation along the majestic Kunene forms a sharp contrast with the surrounding Kaokoland.

Guests at Omarunga will be tempted to just relax and absorb the breathtaking scenery of the mountains on the Angolan side of the river and indulge themselves in the personal attention and European style hospitality of our managers, but there is a whole variety of activities awaiting them too! They can explore the spectrum of smaller waterfalls created by the approximate 800 meters wide river system. The more adventurous ones may want to cool off in one of the crocodile-safe pool just above the falls. In our off-road vehicle and in the accompaniment of our local translator, we offer excursions to the famous Himba who inhabit this area. Largely untouched by modern civilization the Ovahimba still live mach as they did centuries ago. We will take our guests to one of the typical small villages where they can experience the traditional way of the Himbas. They will get an inside view of how they herd and milk their cattle, build their houses and create their own jewellers. As Omarunga only caters for small groups a personal and undisturbed interaction with the Himba can be achieved.

Opuwo Country Lodge - Opuwo is the gateway to the Kaokoveld region in the northwestern part of Namibia or also known as the Kunene region. The remote area south of the Kunene river is the home of the Himba people, who have kept their ethnic individuality and culture in the seclusion of Kaokoland.
