Accommodation in Damaraland

Aabadi Mountain Camp is located in the unspoiled Damaraland area, just about 20 kilometres away from Twyfelfontein and about 325 km from Etosha National Park. Aabadi Mountain Camp is the perfect stopover between the Skeleton Coast and Etosha, or on the road to Kaokoveld. The rest camp is regularly visited by the famous desert elephant, which passes by for a drink or bath in our permanent waterhole. From the sundowner terrace you have a great view over the dry riverbed and you'll notice the elephants from kilometres away. While enjoying a cool drink, just sit back and relax in this beautiful area!

Damara Mopane Lodge is built in the wattle and daub style under Mopane trees and connected by a labyrinth of paths, the main building and chalets of the lodge look like an African village. The walls are adorned by copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Each of the 55 doubleroom chalets (with air conditioning) sits in a vegetable and herb garden surrounded by a low wall. The gardens supply fresh ingredients for supper, which consists of a hot starter followed by a delicious platter. There is a swimming pool for chilling out and a viewing point for relishing sunsets and the star-studded night sky. The lodge at the gates of Damaraland is ideally suited for excursions to Twyfelfontein (130 km), the Petrified Forest (55 km) and the Vingerklip rock stack (50 km).

Grootberg Lodge is a landmark in Namibia for the tourism industry as it is the first middle-market establishment in the country that is 100% owned by the conservancy. The European Union funded the project through the Ministry of Environment and Tourism's Development Programme with a donation of N$4.5 million to develop the 12-room Lodge.

Damaraland Camp is situated in the Huab River Valley, arguably the most pristine wilderness area in Namibia, 90km from Torra Bay in the Torra Conservancy. It is lauded as one of the country's best camps, with sensational views of the surrounding desert plains, ancient valleys and soaring peaks of the Brandberg Mountains.

Winner of the 2005 WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Conservation Award, the eco-friendly construction of Damaraland Camp has merged new technology with ancient methodology in an incredibly inventive manner. Another unique feature of this sustainable ecotourism venture is that it is owned and largely run by the local community - who have injected their own distinctive optimism and cheerful nature into the Damaraland Camp experience. This unusual flavour comes from the mixed heritage of the local peoples, which include Nama-Damara, Herero, Owambo, and the displaced Riemvasmakers of South Africa.

Accommodation at Damaraland Camp consists of 10 adobe-styled, thatched units each raised on individual wooden decking - part of which extends out to form a large viewing deck with magnificent vistas. Recently refurbished, each tent has en-suite facilities (shower only), a walk-in dressing area and built-in fan. Mosquito repellent is also provided.
